Popular Tennis Player Marcos Baghdatis

Marcos Baghdatis

Hailing from Cyprus, 26 year old Marcos Baghdatis is certainly an athlete to watch out for. Finalist at the Australian Open in 2006 and semi finalist at Wimbledonin the same year, this Cypriot player certainly showcases immense potential that has the ability to develop significantly into world class performances over the coming years. The same year provided him with his career best ranking of World Number 8.

2011 however has not been a very bright year for this aspiring tennis star. He commenced the Brisbane International on a positive note, but had to stage an exit following a dismal loss to Andy Roddick representing US at the quarterfinals. At his next tournament, which was the Medibank International Tournament, Baghdatis commenced on a high note as the defending champion but again had to accept a departure, this time owing to a threatening groin injury. The 2011 Australian Open allowed him to progress to the 3rd round before exiting. So certainly, 2011 has not been the brightest year for Marcos Baghdatis. Lack of the desired level of consistency combined with falling prey to injury has dominated his luck for most of the year. Yet, provided that he pulls up his game a bit the coming year, and injuries do not come his way, Marcos Baghdatis can be said to be one of the players the top seeds will want to watch out for. One hopes that Baghdatis is able to return consistency to his game and serve as a source of pride for the nation ofCyprus yet again.
