Ilie Nastase was born on 19th July, 1946 in Bucharest, Romania. He is one of the top former tennis players, who reached the rank of World’s no.1 on 23rd August, 1973. Nastase stands among the five players that have been awarded more than 100 professional tittles from ATP counting to 57 singles titles and 45 doubles titles. Nastase’s name was also included in the international Tennis Hall of Fame in the year 1991. Nastase started his career in 1966 however it wasn’t until 1969 when he started to be considered as a pro in the game. He retired in 1985.

The list of Nastase’s wins is very long with 7 Grand slam titles divided into two single titles, two mixed doubles titles and three doubles titles. The list continues with four Masters Grand Prix titles and seven titles of the Championship Series. Besides bagging in titles, Nastase has also been honored by the titles of being the second best tennis male player to win a Grand slam game without dropping a single set and the first player to achieve the same record in the French open I 1973. Nastase is known to be an entertainer who is next to no one. The 6 foot athlete was a marvel with the tennis racket and made Romania known in the Davis cup which was nowhere before Nastase reached the finals with Ion Tiriac ending up as runner ups in the year 1969, 1971 and 1972. Nastase was ranked World’s no.2 in 1972 after winning the US Open over Arthur Ashe. Nastase won 17 tournaments in the year he was ranked no.1 including the French Opens, Wimbledon’s Doubles title and a third time Master’s title.
