Helen Gourlay Cawley is an Australian tennis player born on the 23rd of December, 1946 in Tasmania, Australia. Her career includes several titles and many final matches of big tournaments however; her career did not expand over a long period.

Cawley holds the record of reaching the final matches of two Grand Slam tournaments. She also lost the final match of the French Open held in the year 1971 and in the Australian Open of December 1977 against the countrywoman Evonne Goolagong Cawley by two sets as 6 – 3, 7 – 5 and 6 – 3, 6 – 0 in the respective tournaments. Although, the surname of both the players is the same however, they are not related with each other in any manner. She did not participate in the United States Championship matches for 6 consecutive years from 1964 to 1969 and then from 1979 to 1980. She was also absent from the French Open tournament from the years 1964 and 1965and then from 1973 to 1976 and 1978 to 1980. However, her career high performance includes her winning the title of the Australian Open for four times in the years 1972, 1976, December 1977 and January 1977. The Australian Open was held twice in 1977 which were won by Helen Gourlay. She also holds the title to win the Wimbledon Championship held in the year 1977 and managed to reach the finals of the same tournament in the year 1974. She was the runner up contestant in the French Open tournament in the years 1971 and 1977.
