Upsets continue on clay – Madrid 2010
by MairaS on May 15, 2010
in Madrid Open
The clay season is becoming super sizzling this year as the upsets continue. The situation seems pretty unpredictable about the Ronald Garros 2010 as top seeded players are struggling with their fitness. After the defeat of Jankovic, Federer and Willaim sisters in Rome 2010, now comes a huge upset when Henin lost on her minion clay in the first round of the 2010Madrid Open on Sunday.
Henin was playing against Aravane Rezai. Rezai defeated Henin 4-6, 7-5, 6-0. Henin had a slow start but was able to win the first set. But things went on fire in second set when Rezai took over the game completely and left Henin struggling in the third set with 6-love. Henin’s defeat on clay has left many questions and doubts over her performance in Ronald Garros 2010.
Following Henin, Sharapova also crashed out of the tournament in thefirst round by being beaten by Safarova, 6-4, 6-3. Sharapova has been out of form for quite sometime now and she clearly struggled on clay against Safarova. Safarova has been performing really well in the past few tournaments and is surely going to impress more in the up coming matches.
The next match is going to be very interesting as the defending champion Dinara Safin will be facing Rezai in the second round if Dinara defeats Klara Zakapalove in the first round.
Keep watching as long as you can absorb the upsets on shining clay.
Cheers for the up coming talent!
