Petra Kvitova: The new female Wimbledon champion
The 21 year old Kvitova of Czech republic displayed highly impressive play in the Wimbledon Women’s Singles final where she defeated the famous female tennis player Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-4. This was Kvitova’s first career Grand Slam. Kvitova with her absolutely stunning and powerful ground strokes was able to push Sharapova back. For Maria Sharapova, it was her second appearance in the Wimbledon final after claiming the 2044 Wimbledon title. However since then she had a major problem with her serve which haunted her again in the final of Wimbledon 2011 where she serves back-to-back double faults in the sixth game. Kvitova on the other hand dominated the first set with her powerful serve. The most impressive thing about Kvitova’s game was her returning, both backhand and forehand.
So we have a new female champion of Wimbledon who made her way through mighty names like Serena, Venus and Wozniacki.
Novak Djokovic-The new champion of Wimbledon
No one thought of famous tennis player Novak Djokovic winning the Wimbledon 2011 by his outstanding and enthralling performance in the men’s Singles final. Although Djokovic was favorite for his brilliant performance in the recent past where he secured Australian Open 2011 and enjoyed his successful emerging rivalry with Rafael Nadal, but still the votes seemed more favorable for the greatest tennis player Roger Federer and Clay King, Rafael Nadal. Novak Djokovic however played his best tennis in the final of Wimbledon 2011 where he took the first two sets by completely manhandling Rafael Nadal 6-4, 6-1. Nadal made a come back in the 3rd set but was overtaken by Djokovic again in the 4th set hence losing it to Djokovic 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
This was Djokovic’s first Wimbledon title. Djokovic has won 48 of 49 matches this season. And he’s now won five straight over Nadal. It is almost impossible to see Djo slowing down this year as Wimbledon is his 8th tennis title of the year. He is now the ATP No. 1 ranked player surpassing Rafael Nadal.
He surely is the best. No joke

The second ranked, former World Number 1, bore a foot injury while dancing at a cousin’s wedding just months before the French Open. Though she participated in the French Open, she was eliminated in the second round by Arantxa Rus (ranked No. 114).
She further suffered another foot injury in Holland while playing against Romina Oprandi from Italy (ranked No. 82) during the UNICEF open forcing her withdrawal from this year’s Wimbledon Championship. Will Federer Make it to 17?
As the commencement of the celebrated tournament of Wimbledon nears, the questions hovering over those following developments within the galore of tennis are many. Amongst the vast majority of them, a very pertinent one concerns the fate of world’s greatest tennis player Roger Federer: Will Federer be able to clench another Grand Slam victory and extend his record to 17?
Very recently at the Roland Garros 2011, the Swiss legend Roger Federer had to forgo his hopes as he suffered a saddening yet not entirely shocking loss to Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal; with Nadal all set to capitalize in the upcoming Wimbledon his recent triumph at the Roland Garros, one has few reasons not to believe that Federer might again be in for a devastating shock, unless of course he stages a comeback too grand for Nadal to handle. Comparison between the two legends remains the favourite topic of tennis for this decade, and while Federer does have to his name 16 Grand Slam wins as opposed to 10 of Nadal, this nonetheless obliterates a pivotal catch: such comparisons do not do justice to the beauty and class of Nadal’s game as a large number of titles that Federer acclaimed were done so when Nadal was just a teenager.
Both Federer and Nadal peaked at different times, and the current year provides certainly more evidence to indicate the peak of the latter as opposed to the former. Such a statement is not meant at all to dispense any claims that Federer’s failure to grab a Grand Slam title since last year’s Australian Open is a temporary setback; agreed, every player’s performance graph is characterized by slight variations. For the sake of Federer and his vast fan following in Switzerland and elsewhere all over the world, one can hope that this downhill is only a temporary one, and he is able to materialize his dreams of a 17th Grand Slam win into reality at this year’s Wimbledon, even though the odds may be slightly against him doing so.
Will Nadal Beat Federer Again?
July 3rd 2011 is the date, Great Britain is the venue and Wimbledon is the tournament.
With the French Open over and decided in the favour of Rafael Nadal, tennis lovers are anticipating the commencement of the Wimbledon tournament; the 3rd of July will provide the world with the newly crowned Wimbledon champion, either adding another new athlete to the memoirs of history or otherwise providing another feather in the cap for an older one. With the recent grueling contest between Federer and Nadal at Rolland Garros being decided in favour of the latter, all eyes are set on these two legends.
Will the Wimbledon showcase yet another Federer- Nadal final?
Will Nadal extend his winning streak into Wimbledon and cause further despair to Federer?
Or will Federer channel his agony of the recent loss to stage a magnificent comeback?
These are questions that will only be answered with the course of time. At the moment, what is fairly amusing and fascinating is the fact that there is no one invincible answer as to who will be crowned champion. True, Nadal has much working in his favour; the last clash of the two legends in a Wimbledon final was in 2008, and certainly an epic one. Nadal turned tables in his favour as he caused Federer to bid farewell to a consecutive five years winning streak. Also, one cannot forget the confidence booster that the recent victory at Rolland Garros has served as for Nadal. Nonetheless, such instances cannot stain the class of Federer, and while the odds may be ostensibly against him, his chances of winning are still fairly existent. As we await the arrival of Wimbledon and deliberate over who shall be granted with the momentous win, one thing is fairly certain: the tournament will provide few weeks of scintillating and exciting displays of tennis and keep tennis viewers all over the world glued to their television screens as they cheer for their favourites.
